How to move apps to SD card from your internal storage

Phone storage is such an important factor when it comes to purchasing your new smartphone, especially for power users, but even for photo and video hounds. Honestly, too little storage is something that can completely turn you off from even considering a particular phone model. After all, you need room for all those songs, photos, and apps. Top that off with an operating system that eats through your internal storage, and you’re going to need at least 16 gigs or more to work with.
These days, there are different methods to compensate for this such as the Cloud and massive sized internal memory configurations. However, SD cards are still a viable option in today’s market and this is probably the cheapest way to maximize your space. While not every smartphone in the Android camp has microSD support, after a bit of a decline a few years back, microSD adoption by OEMs has picked up considerably. Major flagships from LG, Samsung, and HTC all include support, though phones like the Pixel unfortunately do not.
If you do have a phone that supports microSD, and you pick one up you’re going to want to move your apps to it. Thankfully, the process is quite simple and should only take you a few seconds.
With that in mind, let’s jump in and explain how to move apps to your SD card!
Editor’s note:  The following guide was written using a Samsung device, though most (but not all) Android devices allow you to move apps to SD and follow a relatively similar procedure.

Move apps to your SD Card
The first step is to open your Settings app. You can always find it within your app drawer.
Next, swipe down to your application manager and launch it. Keep in mind considering the make or model of your phone, the steps here might be slightly different.
Now you will be brought to a list of all of your apps. Simply select the one you want, and it will display a screen with many options such as “Clear Cache” and “Force Stop”. Tap the one that says “Move to SD Card”, and you’re good to go. It probably goes without saying, but you must have a compatible microSDd card inserted for this option to show up.
Exceptions
When moving apps to your SD card, you must keep in mind a few things. The first is that not all devices support this functionality. You can access the apps through the application manager, but it will not display the “Move to SD Card” option (I have ran into this problem with Moto X Pure, for example).
Second is that not all apps can be transferred to your SD card. This is usually for apps that come pre-installed in your phone such as Google Chrome, YouTube, Messages, and more. In these cases, the “Move to SD Card” will be grayed out, and tapping it will do nothing. Lastly, there are a few specific phones that can move part of an app to the SD card while keeping the rest on internal storage. While it doesn’t help quite as much as simply moving the entire app, every bit counts.

Cloud or SD Card?
How do you guys store things on your phone? Do you prefer getting phones with massive storage? Would you rather get an SD card? Do you use the Cloud instead? We want to know! Talk to us in the comments about the way you optimize your storage and stay tuned for more how-tos on all things Android.

How to block a phone number on your Android phone

Keeping in touch with family and friends has become easier and faster thanks to our Android smartphones. However, not all people who can contact us through our mobile phones are people that we love and cherish; some are spammers, annoying strangers, telemarketers, and other unwanted callers. You don’t need to suffer these unwanted calls. Block them!
In this guide, learn how to block phone numbers on your Android smartphone.

Built-in call blocking features

Most Android phones have a native way to block specific numbers. There didn’t used to be a generalized way to do this, though, so manufacturers often had to build the feature into their own software skins.
This is why the procedure can be unique on your specific device, as it varies from phone to phone. Needless to say we can’t go into detail about the necessary steps for blocking calls on every single phone out there, but we can give you an idea and show you how it’s done with the most popular devices.

Some carriers make it easier!

Want to really get rid of those annoying callers? Doing it from your phone works, but what if you switch handsets often? Maybe you want this done in a more systemic way. Some carriers allow you to block specific numbers on a service level. And this does include the 4 major carriers in the USA (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint).
There are some limitations to these, though. For example, Verizon only allows up to 5 blocked numbers per line. AT&T also does it on a device-by-device basis. On the other hand you have T-Mobile, which only allows blocking with family plans. And then there’s Sprint, which seems to be more helpful about doing this.

Call blocking on Samsung phones

Most of you likely have Samsung phones. They are the biggest Android smartphone manufacturer, after all. Trying to get rid of those pesky callers? Let’s show you how.
  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Select which number you want to block and hit “More” (located on the top-right corner).
  3. Select “Add to Auto-Reject List”.
  4. To remove or make more edits, go to Settings > Call Settings > All Calls > Auto Reject.

Call blocking on LG phones

The process is very similar with LG phones, but there are slight differences. Here we go:
  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap the 3-dot icon (top-right corner).
  3. Select “Call Settings”.
  4. Select “Reject Calls”.
  5. Tap the ‘+’ button and add the numbers you want blocked.

Call blocking on HTC phones

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Press and hold the phone number.
  3. Select “Block Contact”.
  4. Select “OK”.
  5. You can remove them from the blocked list on the People app.

Third-party apps for blocking phone calls

If your Android phone doesn’t have an in-built call blocking feature or if it does but you find it lacking, you can choose one from the many third-party call blocking apps on the Google Play Store. Of particular note are the Mr. Number app, Call Blocker app, and Calls Blacklist app.

Mr. Number

The Mr. Number app is a free and ads-free Android app that allows you to block unwanted calls and texts on your mobile phone. This app protects your phone from spam, silence selected contacts, or even keep your phone inaccessible by the rest of the world.
Mr. Number also has a Remote Lookup feature that allows you to find information about an unknown caller in the U.S. The first 20 lookups are free and you will be charged about US$1.00 for the next 20 lookups. This app also has a Business Caller ID that provides information about callers using a business line.
Here’s a general idea of how to use Mr. Number:
  1. Download, install, and launch the Mr. Number app. Tap OK to continue.
  2. Verify your country. Select your country with your country code, and type your phone number. Tap OK to continue.
  3. To begin blocking contacts, tap the “No” or prohibition symbol at the upper-right portion of the screen to access the block list.
The Blocklist contains three tabs: Hang Up, Voicemail, and Exceptions.

When a contact listed on the Hang Up tab tries to call you, your phone will automatically Hang Up the call. Callers listed under Voicemail will have their calls redirected to the voicemail box. You can add numbers to the Hang Up and/or Voicemail tabs in various ways:
  1. Suspected spam
  2. All private/blocked numbers
  3. Choose from recent calls or texts
  4. Enter a number
  5. Choose from contacts
  6. All numbers not in contacts
  7. All numbers beginning with…
  8. All numbers in contacts
  9. All numbers
The Exceptions tab lists contacts that will not be blocked or redirected. So, if you want to keep in touch with your family and friends while keeping the strangers and spammers at bay, register your family and friends’ contact numbers under the Exceptions tab.
You can also block contacts right from the app’s main screen. Under the Recent tab, which shows the history of received calls and text, tap the Menu button beside each log entry and select Block Number. A popup will appear, asking you whether to block the contact or redirect all the contact’s calls to your voicemail. You can also mark it as a spam number and add a comment about the blocked contact number. A notification will appear every time the app intercepts a blocked contact. The history of blocked contacts will be displayed under the Blocked History tab on the app’s main screen.

Call Blocker

Another handy call blocker app that you’d want to try is the free and ad-supported Call Blocker app. If you subscribe to the paid and ad-free version, you can enjoy premium features, including the Private Space feature that securely stores private SMS messages and call logs.
Here’s a general idea of how to use Call Blocker:
  1. Download, install, and launch the Call Blocker app. Tap Agree to continue.
  2. On the app’s main menu, tap the Blocked Calls button.
  3. Tap the add button (represented by an icon of paper with check and X marks)
The Blacklist and Whitelist tabs will be displayed on the screen. Tap Add Number to add a contact. You can add a number via your contacts, call log, or SMS log, or you can type the number directly. Contacts listed on the Blacklist tab will be blocked (of course!) while contacts on the Whitelist tab will be exempted

Conclusion

In this day and age, home landlines are pretty much extinct, meaning that spammers, telemarketers, and other unwanted callers have a new target: your mobile phone. Thankfully, call blocking is possible on our Android phones or via third-party apps from the Google Play Store.

how to fix Mobile Hotspot Connected But Not Loading Websites

To those of us who use our phones’ data connection on other devices through a mobile hotspot, problems might arise occasionally. One of such problems is the fact that you are connected to the hotspot, and yet your browser cannot load any websites. This tutorial is to provide you with a few solutions that you can try in fixing such problem.

Fix: Mobile Hotspot Connected But Not Working

The following solutions can be quite useful:

==> Check if the data connection on your phone is turned on.

Most times we turn on our hotspot while forgetting to turn on the data connection. Without the data connection turned on, there’s no way that you can surf the internet through the hotspot connection. So turn it on if it’s off.

also read - How To Format Micro SD Card and use it As Internal Storage on Android 6.0 Marshmallow

==> Restart your data connection

By restarting your phone’s data connection, you could refresh the Internet connection if it was bogged down.

==> Ensure that you are connected to the right Wi-Fi network

Sometimes, we connect to a different Wi-Fi hotspot thinking it is the right one. Check to ensure that you are connected to the right network if your websites are not loading.

==> Reduce the number of connected users

If the number of users connected to a particular Wi-Fi hotspot is much, it could minimize the speed of the connection and possibly stop it entirely. By reducing the number of connected devices, you can improve the speed of the connection.

==> Try resetting the network settings on the connected devices

On your PC or tablet or other connected devices, resetting their network settings to their default could be the solution.

==> Move your device serving as the hotspot to a different location.

Sometimes, the location of the hotspot device could be the problem. If the location has a poor network reception, try moving to another place.

==> Restart your phone and/or the connected device(s)

When all the other methods are abortive, you can reboot the phone and/or the connected devices.
If you try one method and it doesn’t work, you can try a combination of the other methods to get a better result.
CONCLUSION
The methods given above are not the only solutions, but they are some of the simplest ones and the ones that should easily come to mind in such a situation. If you have other suggestions, please let me know.

How To Format Micro SD Card and use it As Internal Storage on Android 6.0 Marshmallow

This guide is for Android devices running Marshmallow. In this tutorial, I will be showing you how you can transform your Micro SD card into an internal storage similar to your phone storage. This process is particularly useful for those of us with internal storage that is less than 16GB and like installing heavy games.

When you insert an SD card in your Android 6.0 Marshmallow device for the first time, it brings up two options for you to choose from. One is to use the SD card as an internal storage much like your phone memory; and the other is to use it as portable storage.

How to Watch Big Brother Naija 2017 Online For FREE – #BBNaija

To use your SD card as internal storage follow these steps:

  • First insert the SD card into your Marshmallow device. The SD card should be detected by the Android OS. From the notification, click on the “SET UP” option – don’t neglect this step.
  • In the setup screen, the two options for the use of the SD card come up. Select the “Use as internal storage option”. Click on the “Next” button to continue.
  • Next, format the SD card by tapping on the “ERASE & FORMAT” button on the next screen.
  • The fourth step is to move some of your data to the SD card.
  • Tap “Move now” on the screen to move the data to your SD card. If you select “Move later”, your phone will continue to use the phone storage instead of the SD card.
  • Tap “Next” to continue. The OS should then begin to estimate the size of the files to be moved to the SD card. When it’s done estimating, tap on the “Move” button to start moving the files. You need to be patient at this point as it would take some time to for the OS to finish moving the files

Finally, tap “Done” when the process is complete. Your SD card can now be used as an internal storage much like the phone storage. Enjoy!

Final words

You should note that doing this encrypts your SD card, making it difficult to simply unmount the card and put it in another device to be read. If you also perform a factory reset on your phone, you cannot be able to read your SD card on any device including your phone. This is because the data in your SD card were all encrypted during the process of changing it to internal storage. To use the SD card again you’ll need to format it.

How to Disable WhatsApp Status On Android (ROOTED DEVICES ONLY)

Upon release of the WhatsApp status by WhatsApp this week, the internet brewed with comments. This was expected really; the change WhatsApp was bringing unto its messaging platform was a huge one.

Taking a percentage of such comments into our view, we were able to amass a vast quantity of negative ones from users all around the world. Some just hated the feature for no reason. Some because they felt WhatsApp copied Snapchat. A significant amount also missed the fact that the “contact” menu was missing on the new update. They couldn’t see the list of their contacts on WhatsApp or and they hate it! I do too. The user interface and the difficulty in usage became a big problem to a good number too as there were issues with creating a new chat.

There are actually two ways to disable the status feature on your device. You can do a little bit of coding of the application using your file manager (which we will discuss later), or you can simply disable this feature using a third-party application.

This tutorial is based on the latter option in the last paragraph. Quite stress-free and doesn’t involve coding. All you need is a ROOTED ANDROID DEVICE and the WA Tweaks application to toggle off the status feature on your WhatsApp messenger.

Requirements

  • WA Tweaks application: (Link)
  • Rooted Android phone
  • Android phone above 4.0x

HOW TO DISABLE WHATSAPP STATUS ON ANDROID

1. Download WA Tweaks on your Android phone from here
2. Install the application. You might get the usual “unknown source”. Don’t worry, just click on Settings
3. Scroll down and turn on the unknown source

4. Now go ahead and install the application. Launch the application after installation

5. Grant WA Tweaks root access

6. Now, before proceeding, Force Stop your WhatsApp.
Goto Settings > Apps > WhatsApp and Force Stop WhatsApp
7. Now go back to the WA Tweaks and just turn off the New Home UI feature.
8. Now, open your WhatsApp again, and this feature will be turned off
That’s it. Get that annoying and copycat status feature off your WhatsApp.
Didn’t get it? Let’s know where you got stuck in the comment box.

How To Control Your Android Device With Your Face Or Head

There is really no limit as to what man can achieve with his imagination. For whatever can be imagined can be realized: it is just a matter of time. Truly the wonders of mobile computing continue to stretch beyond boundaries.  Have you ever imagined controlling your mobile device with just your face or head? You may think it is fiction, but it is already possible; thanks to an app called Eva Facial Mouse developed by “Fundacion Vodafon Espana” (Spanish Vodafone Foundation).

About Eva Facial Mouse

Eva Facial Mouse is a free app available on the Playstore that allows a user control his device by tracking the movement of the head through the front camera. The control is possible by a pointer on the screen that follows the movement of the head/face giving you access to the interface without the use of your fingers.
Although this app would be beneficial to users with a disability on their hands or arms, it does come with a few limitations: for one you may not be able to use it with most games.

Control Your Android Device with Your Face [How-to]

Let’s dive in already to the main part.

How to use Eva Facial Mouse
  • Step 1: Install Eva Facial Mouse
Download and install the app from the Playstore and launch it.
  • Step 2: Grant the app permissions
Grant the necessary permissions that the app requires by tapping on OK. On the accessibility menu that comes up, toggle on the switch at the top right corner and tap OK to enable the app.

Accept the terms and conditions by clicking OK. For Android 6.0 or higher devices, ensure to tap “Allow” in the pop-up to grant additional permissions.

  • Step 3: Set the app as your default keyboard
On the setup wizard screen that follows, tap Next twice to get into the Keyboard menu. Tap the Settings button at the center of the screen.

You will then be taken to the system’s main Settings menu. Select the Language & Input settings and under the Keyboards and Input section, tap on “Choose keyboards” or “Choose input method” as the case maybe. Next, select the Eva Facial Mouse as a keyboard.

However, if you are using an Android N device, select “Virtual keyboards” and then tap the “Manage keyboards” button at the bottom. Enable the Eva keyboard and tap OK. Go back one level and tap “Current keyboard” and choose the app from the list.

If you device is running Android Kitkat, tap on Default keyboard option and select Eva Facial Mouse to set it as default.  For phones that do not have the “Current keyboard” option, click on any text input field and from the notification bar select the app from the keyboard list. After successfully setting up the app, the screen should look like the one below:

  • Step 4: Calibrate the facial tracker
If you successfully set the app as the default keyboard, the app will then try to detect your face. Position your Android device so that it faces you while your head is in a natural position. A small viewfinder comes up at the top of the screen. Position your face to center it in the viewfinder.

When the app says “face detected”, tap the Next button.

Next, a mouse pointer will then appear. And whenever you move your head, the pointer follows the direction of your movement. You can set the speed of the pointer’s movement by adjusting the pointer speed.
Click the Next button and read the instructions on how to use the pointer. When you are done, you can now control your android device using your head.
  • Step 5: Using the app
Finally, to select any of the UI elements, just hover to any app and allow the pointer rest on the app for a few seconds. Two options pop up – click and long click. Move your head to select your option and watch the resulting wonder.

There is also a dock menu at the edge of the screen to give you quick access to some functions such as minimizing or going back.  In case you want to scroll through a screen, the app presents to you icons above or beneath to help you do just that.
CONCLUSION
Phew! That was really long, although I might have omitted some details; but you should be able to get on with the above. If you have any questions regarding this guide, please do let me know.
Thanks.

Meizu M5 Note Specs Review & Price in China, India, US, Nigeria, Kenya

Meizu M5 Note was launched last week as the latest budget smartphone from Chinese smartphone maker Meizu in its Blue Charm series. The device comes as a cheap smartphone but sports an all-metal body and is being offered in a variety of color variants which includes Sky Gray, Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver, and Glacier Blue.

Meizu M5 Note Design & Specification

The Meizu M5 Note sports a 5.5-inch display with 450 nits maximum brightness which translates into 403ppi and has a resolution of 1080 pixels. There is a curved 2.5D glass on top of the display which gives it a premium look. No doubt the design looks similar to other Blue Charm series smartphones. There are the traditional antenna lines on the upper and lower edges of the phone’s rear area. The phone is touted to come with improved signal quality and strength, double what the previous versions have.

The M5 note is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core chipset which is backed by a 3GB RAM on one variant and a 4GB RAM on the topmost variant. There are also three storage versions, one with 16GB storage, another with 32GB and a third with 64GB of internal storage space. The phone is also a dual SIM phone with dual standby as well. The SIM card slots are hybrid ones and the second slot can double as a MicroSD slot for expanding the device’s storage up to 128GB.

On the camera end, the device packs a 13MP Sony IMX sensor with PDAF which focuses in just o.2 seconds and a f/2.2 aperture. There is equally a 5MP selfie shooter up front with ArcSoft’s algorithm for better image quality. In addition, there is a fingerprint sensor which unlocks the device in 0.2 seconds. The M5 Note crams under its hood a large 4000mAh battery which has support for 18W Charge, ensuring it fills up faster. As for the software, the phone runs on Meizu’s latest Flyme 6 OS based on Android Marshmallow and it promises 20% better CPU and memory resource allocation for faster performance.

Gionee P7 with 2GB RAM and 4G VoLTE launched in India: Specs & Price

The normal thing when smartphones in a series are to be launched is for the standard variant to be launched first, and then subsequent variants with suffixes like ‘Plus’, ‘Lite’, ‘Max’, etc added to their names launched afterwards. In the case of the Gionee P7 and Gionee P7 Max, however, things are different. The Gionee P7 Max was launched in September without a previous standard version, and the Gionee P7 has just been launched in India.

The Gionee P7 is a lower version of the Gionee P7 Max and comes with watered-down specs and an equally lower price tag. Both are, however, designed similarly.
