Top 5 Smartphone Vendors - Chinese Manufaturers, OPPO and Vivo, Make The top 5 ListS

As Apple is going through a major decline in sales, Lenovo and Xiaomi are no longer considered the fourth and fifth biggest smartphones vendors and the global mobile market is off to an interesting start in Q1 2016.

A recent report by IDC shows that the positions held by Lenovo and Xiaomi have already been taken by two other Chinese brands, OPPO and Vivo. Although OPPO is less known globally compared to Xiaomi, it’s acceptability in China and some markets in Asia positioned it to attain this level.

Samsung still remains at the very top 81.9 million smartphones shipped in the first quarter of the year and maintaining the lead with 24.5%. There’s only a slight YoY change of -0.6%. Apple is experiencing a major decline in sales and it has been able to ship only 51.2 million devices with 15.3% of the market share. Huawei still has the third position and that isn’t surprising. With YoY growth of 58.4%, Huawei has shipped 27.5 million devices so far in 2016 Q1 with 8.2% market share.

The big surprises on the list are the two Chinese brands, OPPO and Vivo. OPPO took Lenovo’s position with a 153.2% YoY growth, shipping 18.5 million smartphones and claiming 5.5% market share while Vivo on the other hand, shipped 14.3 million smartphones and presently owns 4.3% market share.
