MTN Set to roll out 4G LTE in Lagos & Abuja after Paying FG N18.96bn For Broadband Aquisition

After paying N18.96 Billion to the federal government of Nigeria as payment to slots it won in the 2.6GHz spectrum auction For Broadband Aquisition. Mtn has finally Set to roll out 4G LTE in top states in Nigeria like Lagos & Abuja, meanwhile, Port-Harcourt is coming on the way!

If you are in Lagos or Abuja, and you are using any Android Smartphone that supports 4G Network then goto settings > Mobile Networks, you will see something like this. MTN Nigeria; 4G, UMTS, GSM.




According to the NCC statement, “The spectrum guarantees superior performance for wireless networks, especially 4G LTEservices and we have officially declared MTN as the winner after the auction in May and we have expressed dismay that only the telecom operator which bidded for 30 MHz out of the 70 available showed interest and contended that MTN had won a ten-year frequency spectrum licence for the 2.6GHz band”


Moolman said,
“And after making the licence payment of N18.96bn for the 2.6GHz to the NCC, MTN has been issued a letter of award. With the 2.6 GHz band, we expect to roll out and provide the full range of Long-Term Evolution services to Nigerians, empowering Nigeria with the latest mobile broadband technology.”



“This licence acquisition further demonstrates MTN’s abiding faith in the future of Nigeria and the resilience of the Nigerian economy. MTN continues to believe in Nigeria and we have expressed this belief in the level of our investment, which currently stands at approximately $15bn and counting”
