MTN Set to roll out 4G LTE in Lagos & Abuja after Paying FG N18.96bn For Broadband Aquisition

After paying N18.96 Billion to the federal government of Nigeria as payment to slots it won in the 2.6GHz spectrum auction For Broadband Aquisition. Mtn has finally Set to roll out 4G LTE in top states in Nigeria like Lagos & Abuja, meanwhile, Port-Harcourt is coming on the way!

If you are in Lagos or Abuja, and you are using any Android Smartphone that supports 4G Network then goto settings > Mobile Networks, you will see something like this. MTN Nigeria; 4G, UMTS, GSM.




According to the NCC statement, “The spectrum guarantees superior performance for wireless networks, especially 4G LTEservices and we have officially declared MTN as the winner after the auction in May and we have expressed dismay that only the telecom operator which bidded for 30 MHz out of the 70 available showed interest and contended that MTN had won a ten-year frequency spectrum licence for the 2.6GHz band”


Moolman said,

“And after making the licence payment of N18.96bn for the 2.6GHz to the NCC, MTN has been issued a letter of award. With the 2.6 GHz band, we expect to roll out and provide the full range of Long-Term Evolution services to Nigerians, empowering Nigeria with the latest mobile broadband technology.”

“This licence acquisition further demonstrates MTN’s abiding faith in the future of Nigeria and the resilience of the Nigerian economy. MTN continues to believe in Nigeria and we have expressed this belief in the level of our investment, which currently stands at approximately $15bn and counting”

Please Read This Before You Buy The So Called "30000mah Solar Power Bank

Ads have started popping up everywhere online for so called "30000mah solar powered battery banks". Some of these powerbanks sellers even went further to claim they had powerbanks with 50000mah worth of charge.. Even 80000mah. To make the offer even sweeter manufacturers of these powerbanks have added "solar charging" to the mix. All this tech is combined with prices so low make the devices sound like manna from heaven. This post will investigate some of the claims of said powerbanks to see how true these numbers really are..



Capacity.

Almost all rechargeable batteries used in powerbanks are lithium batteries
The unspoken truth about powerbanks and mobile batteries (especially lithium) in general is that the tech has started reach a plateau in terms of size to charge capacity in the past few years. As such, you can roughly estimate the capacity of a lithium battery just by looking at its size. Given this moderate assumption it's about right to say a 30000mah battery fitted in a power bank should be 10 times as large as your typical phone battery. However most of the powerbanks we see today claiming to hold up to 30000mAh of charge are small enough to fit in your pocket. In reality, a battery of that capacity should look at least 3 to 4 times as large as a moderately sized phone
Before you buy a powerbank always ask yourself . "Is the rated capacity of this powerbank realistic?"


Now let's open a typical 30000mah solar power bank sold in Nigeria to see the true capacity of the battery inside.



As you can see from the images above, the powerbank contains just two 2400mah batteries for a combined capacity of 4800mah. Not the 30000mah advertised. The true capacity has been inflated more than 6 times over. For a little perspective, let me tell you the capacity of the typical single AA battery.. 2400mAh ! .This so called 30000mah has no more capacity than two regular finger batteries you can buy from any store.

Solar charging.

By now I guess some of you are thinking. "Well, it has solar charging so even if the capacity isn't large enough I can just harness my free sunlight to keep my phone charged 24/7"

As to whether the solar panel charges the batteries at all, I cannot confirm. You do see a set of LEDs on the side of this particular powerbank light up when the solar panel is under direct sunlight.. So you are thinking..."something must be charging right?"

Not necessarily.

For the science inclined, let's do a little rough calculation here to see why a solar panel that small is basically a waste of time (you can skip if you just want the results)

The best solar panels you can buy will provide 230 watts of power per square metre under direct sunlight

Being very generous, the size of the solar panel on top of this power bank is 7.5cm by 15cm. Multiplying this you get an area of 112.5 square cm. Convert that to square metres and you get 0.01125 Sq metres

Multiplying the area of the powerbanks solar panel by the "premium" power output of 230Watts per square metre; The power output of the powerbanks solar panel is 2.6watts

The standard charging voltage for lithium batteries is 5 volts.. Using the power, voltage, current relationship:

Power= current x voltage

2.6watts=current x 5 volts

Current = 0.52A
Current = 520mA

So charging current from the solar panel (after converting from solar panel voltage to 5v) to the battery is 520mA.

NOT 1A or 1000mA (solar) as stated on the back of the powerbank below


To charge 30000mah:
30000mAh/520mA= 57 hours of full blast sunlight

To charge 4800mAh:
4800mAh/520mA= 9 hours of full blast sunlight

And this is all assuming you have world class solar panels attached to your cheap off the counter powerbank! In reality, you might have to double your charging time for regular grade solar panels of this size
.




Long and short, factoring in sunlight availability and electrical losses, you probably will not be able to charge this powerbank by solar electricity. In fact the LED charging lights will probably suck all the current produced by the solar panel just to indicate that it is charging


Conclusion

Before you buy any powerbanks please ensure you have a good grasp of the content of what you are buying.
Buy from reputable brand names and don't fall for this solar charging gimmick. It doesn't work well enough to be viable.


There are larger portable panels that do work,

however they are difficult to come by in Nigeria.

hello guys, the Tecno Camon C9 is the latest Added Gadget to the Tecno C series and both the C8 and C9 are both known as Camera Phones, although i did not do full Review about the C9 like i did in C8 Here, and the Camera of Camon C8 was also compared to that of Iphone 6.

so i was opportune to get Hold of the new Camon C9 Yesterday, although no review was Done, but I was focused More on the Camera and i compared to C8. See Specs of Tecno Camon C9 here… although i can't really say which one is better, but i think you guys will do the saying for me.

Starting first is a picture i shot last night using the Camon C9 back camera under low no light condition. The image was shot some few minutes to 9pm ( precisely 8:47pm ). Thanks to PHCN, there was no electricity at the time. It so happened that during the time, i was testing the Camon C9 watermark feature and taking a picture .

Ntel Networks sets to move to Port-Harcourt soon.

we all know the Plans Ntel networks has for us, they are now at Abuja and Lagos, so they have recently made a move and are already heading to port Harcourt .


Few months ago, Ntel commenced operation in Abuja and later, Lagos and have been lashing out their SIM cards for new customers in the 0804 network.

The good news now is that, all is set for Ntel to storm the oil city of Port-Harcourt and environs including areas like Bony Island, Onne and even stretching to Delta state.
They have mapped out procedures and equipments are all on ground waiting to start lashing out there sims.

From the pictures lying around you can see that design-wise the Cubot X16 does pretty well too, but still it would need something more to stand out better in the sea of similar phones.

Vivo X7 and Vivo X7 Plus to be lunched on June 30th

Vivo have revealed that they will launch 2 new Vivo X7 phones at the end of this month along with a few spec details.

In the run up to the Vivo X7 launch, vivo have already teased that the phone will be focussed on taking selfies and will include a front facing 16 mega-pixel camera along with a dedicated front flash, but now more details have emerged.


Vivo have now confirmed that the X7 will also receive a Snapdragon 652 chipset, and 4GB RAM plus 64GB internal memory.

The new phone will feature a similar metal design to the Vivo X6, however the fingerprint scanner has now been repositioned on to the chin of the phone under an oval button (similar to the OnePlus 3).

Additional details are expected to be revealed in the coming days, but we expect a 16 mega-pixel rear camera, NFC and fast charging to be part of the X7 package too.

Meet the 9-year-old iPhone app developer who’s better at coding than most adults

Tim Cook said Apple gave 350 scholarships to young developers to this year’s WWDC event, highlighting one winner in particular. 9-year-old
Anvitha Vijay from Australia got the chance of a lifetime thanks to a scholarship, not to mention getting a shout-out from Tim Cook on stage.
Sure, this is a great marketing stunt from Apple, which basically told the world that it’s so easy to code that the youngest iOS developers are
just 9 years old. But that doesn’t take away anything from Vijay’s accomplishments — she’s a developer who can code better than
most adults.



In an interview with USA Today , Vijay said that she’s got a long way to go when it comes to coding. Her first app is called Smartkins
Animals (available at this link ), and it’s supposed to teach young children about animals. Her app had already been downloaded a few hundred times ahead of her interview.


“It was like a dream to be here and meet so many people,” Vijay said. “I’ve just touched the tip of the iceberg in coding, there’s so much to
learn.” About Cook, she said that “he’s really good,” and “really nice.”


started coding at age 7 with the help of YouTube and instructional videos, and she created the app so her sister could learn to identify animals. She used Xcode to create her app – not even Swift, which is Apple’s newest programming language. She used her mom’s
phone and uploaded the app under her mother’s name since she’s under the age (13) that would allow her to create her own iTunes account.

Vijay is working on a new app for students. Called GoalsHi, it’s supposed to help students get more confidence in the classroom. For this
second app, the young programmer is using Swift.

“I want to make a difference in people’s lives through technology” – that’s the message on her business card, and Vijay might have a bright future in this business.

Even with the faster technology, magnetic resonance charging is a little niche and risky to make it into the successor for the LG G5.
