Rumor says Android 7.0 Nougat will be released next week

Get your affairs in order, Nexus device owners, because the final version of Android 7.0 Nougat may be released in just a few short days. We already knew that Nougat is set to land in August, and it looks like Google will indeed deliver Android 7.0 on time to supported devices. A new report from a Canadian wireless carrier provides a solid release date for the operating system, so if you’re rocking a Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P, your wait is almost over.

According to a spreadsheet found on Telus Forums that are maintained by community managers, 9to5Google reports, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P should get Android Nougat on August 22nd, which is this coming Monday.

As you can see, the list also includes update details for other devices, including non-Nexus hardware that will only receive security updates, or have already received them. And yes, we feel the pain of Telus Samsung A5 owners who have only just now made the jump to Marshmallow, according to the same document.

If you’re on a non-Nexus device, you’ll have to wait for the official Android N update to hit your phone or tablet. The Galaxy Note 7 might be one of the first handsets to be upgraded, but won’t happen until some point around November.

One other reason to be excited about Nougat is that Google usually launches new Nexus hardware alongside its latest stable Android releases. Recent rumors say that the 2016 Nexus smartphones will be unveiled at some point in September, and possibly hit stores by October 4th.

That said, we do expect Google to make a formal announcement once it’s ready to roll out the final Android 7.0 build. That should happen in the coming days, assuming this rumored August 22nd release date is accurate.
