Anything over 4GB of RAM in a smartphone is overkill at this point. However, that doesn’t mean that a device that packs 6GB of RAM (or even more) won’t be appealing to buyers, particularly a high-end handset that’s already very popular with fans. For the longest time, the Galaxy Note 7 was rumored to be one of these 6GB RAM unicorns, but the device Samsung unveiled a few weeks ago was (from that perspective) a let-down. All Galaxy Note 7 versions out there, except a select few that are going to China, will have just 4GB of RAM inside.
Samsung confirmed a few days ago that a Galaxy Note 7 model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is indeed real, and it’s supposed to help Samsung compete against Chinese smartphone makers that have equipped their devices with the same amount of memory. Before that, documentation from a regulatory body in China confirmed that such a device exists.
According to PlayfulDroid, Samsung has confirmed that it will launch the 6GB Galaxy Note 7 in China on August 26 during an official event. But don’t get too excited about it. Just because it exists, it doesn’t mean Samsung will bring it to other markets.
Other distinctive features of this model aside from the memory bump and storage increase include a new hybrid SIM/microSD tray that would support two SIM cards at once.
The 6GB version is rumored to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor inside, rather than the Exynos 8890 that’s found in some Galaxy Note 7 models.
Pricing details have not been listed, but you can expect to pay a premium for more memory and storage on this Android flagship –
